MONGOLIA YOUNG LEADERS PROGRAMVANCOUVER, CANADANovember 21-24, 2013

The Mongolia Young Leaders Program (MYLP) is scheduled to take place from November 21-24, 2013 in Vancouver, Canada.MYLP was initiated by the Mongolian-American Scientific Research (MonAme) Center, and the first annual conference took placeIn Washington, DC, USA in March 2009 with the support of the Embassy of Mongolia to the United States, the North America-Mongolia Business Council, and the Zorig Foundation USA. The second and the third MYLP were organized in Palo Alto, California at Stanford University, and in Boston, Massachusetts, which was organized by Mongolian students studying at Harvard and MIT.Based on the success of the program to date, the Mongolian Young Leaders Program expanded into Europe in 2010 to include Mongolian students who are enrolled at top European universities. The program was organized in Milan, Italy in 2010, and Istanbul, Turkey in 2011.This year’s event will be organized by the MonAme Center with the cooperation of the Honorary Consul of Mongolia to British Columbia, Canada, as well as the support of the Embassy of Mongolia to Canada and the Embassy of Canada to Mongolia. This year’s event coincides with the 40th Anniversary of Official Mongolia-Canada diplomatic relations.Young leaders selected to participate in this program are expected to arrive in Vancouver, Canada by evening on Thursday, November 21, 2013, as the program starts the morning on Friday, November 22, 2013. Participants should plan on departing on Sunday, November 24, 2013.The aims of this program are to challenge Mongolia’s best young, talented minds into thinking about the sustainable, prosperous future of Mongolia; to provide an opportunity for the student-fellows to meet one another and exchange views and opinions about the current and future state of democracy, economic development, and human development of Mongolia; and ultimately, to motivate them to become future political, intellectual, and business leaders of the country.We highly encourage students to apply to take advantage of this great opportunity to meet fellow Mongolian students as well as political and business leaders. Another goal of the program is to provide a networking opportunity to Fellows and other Mongolian students in the host city.

Eligibility and Other Key Information:

Mongolian citizens enrolled at US and Canadian universities who inspire others with their leadership qualities. The event is free of charge: all expenses in Vancouver will be covered by sponsors and organizers. Accepted students are responsible for their airfare to and from Vancouver.

How to apply:

To apply please submit your most recent college transcripts and CV with pertinent contact information. In order to aid the selection process, please answer the following questions. Make sure to limit each of your responses to 250 words or less.1)    What is your current course of study, and how does it relate to your career goals?2)     Mongolia is a land of opportunities and challenges. The economy of Mongolia is growing largely due to exponential growth in the extractive industries sector. Please answer to ONE of the questions below:a.    Please share your thoughts of how mining should develop. You can address the mining and minerals industry, mining reclamation and environment, legal and financial issues, water, land rights topics, labor, minerals trade, technology and management, etc.ORb.    Please share your thoughts about the development and diversification of the Mongolian economy. What other sectors can be developed besides mining/extractive industries?c.    What are your interests and passion (arts, culture, design, film, media, environment, energy, politics, and you name it), and how do you see yourself contributing and leading the development in that relevant sector?3)    What actions have you taken to demonstrate your devotion to public service or service to others?
