Tsagaan Sar celebrations in Seattle and D.C.

In late February 2019, over 40 people gathered at a home in Seattle to celebrate Tsagaan Sar. The organizers of the event were two Mongolian students from the University of Washington. The event included a spread of Mongolian buuz (traditional-style meat dumplings) and a variety of unique, homemade dairy products. Later in the evening, the two organizers did a short presentation on the Mongolian traditions and customs of Lunar New Year.

This event was sponsored by Friends of Mongolia through its first Tsagaan Sar satellite event grant. Organizers from six major metropolitan U.S. cities were able to apply for up to $300 to go towards a public Tsagaan Sar event.

Across the coast, The Mongolian School of the National Capital Area (MSNCA) and Friends of Mongolia teamed up to organize a Tsagaan Sar celebration for affiliates and friends in the Washington D.C. area. This annual event welcomed more than 100 guests this year, including a few former U.S. Ambassadors to Mongolia.
